Daniel Wuensche just needs 36 holes for victory
by Matthias Lettenbichler
Belek/Turkey – PGA Golfprofessional Daniel Wuensche is the first winner of the 2010 RENAULT EPD Tour season. The 24 year old from Gilching near Munich was clever enough to secure himself a two-shot-lead already after the 2nd round of the 30,000 euro tournament in Belek/Turkey. When the final round had to be cancelled due to heavy rain overnight and flooded greens on Thursday morning, the young German was ready to receive his 2nd winner’s trophy on the RENAULT EPD Tour. Last year he gained victory at the Land Fleesensee Classic.
After rounds of 69 and 64 shots on the par 69 Sueno Dunes course Wuensche was two strokes ahead of Englishman Grant Jackson (70+65/-3) – good enough to take the 4814 euro winner’s cheque and the No. 1 position of the RENAULT EPD Tour Order of Merit after tournament director Jochen Gertitschke had to decide that the competition had to be reduced to 36 holes. 3rd place finally was shared by Bjoern Pettersen from Sweden and Christoph Guenther and Bjoern Stromsky, both from Germany. They all finished with 2 under Par.
The Sueno Dunes Classic was the opening tournament of the 2010 season and also the 1st event of this year’s Winter Series. Another three tournaments will be played in Belek before the tour moves to Marokko where three more tournaments will take place. All in all a total of 20 events is planned for this season.
The next tournament is the Sueno Pines Classic that starts this Saturday, and another 30,000 euro of prize money has to be shared by the top 40. pictures taken by Stefan Heigl / Leo Lenz / EPD Tour
64! Daniel Wuensche 2 ahead of Grant Jackson
Belek (mat) – German PGA Golfprofessional Daniel Wuensche is leading by two shots after 36 holes of the Sueno Dunes Classic. The 24 year old from Gilching near Munich fired a flawless round 64 on Wednesday, made 5 birdies and not one bad shot. With 5 under par (69+64) he is now two strokes ahead of Englishman Grant Jackson (70+65/-3) and 1st candidate for the 1st trophy of the 2010 season.
A total of 40 players made the cut (+3) on the par-69-course in Belek/Turkey and will earn their share of the 30,000 euro prize money.
The final round is supposed to be started at 8 a.m. local time.
Belek: Ground frost delays 2010 kick-off in Turkey
Belek (mat) – A sunny blue sky but chilly temperatures below zero caused a 4 hour delay of the kick-off of the 2010 RENAULT EPD Tour season in Belek/Turkey on Tuesday.
After the field teed off at noon and not at 8 a.m. as it was originally planned, only a dozen players were able to finish their first round on Tuesday. Among them Max Glauert from Germany who played a solid 66 on the par 69 Sueno Dunes course. With 3 under par he is sharing the lead with Björn Pettersen from Sweden who finished his opening round today.
As temperatures did not go below zero this morning players were able to go on the course at 8 a.m. to finish the first round. At 9:45 a.m. the 2nd round will be started in Belek.
“We are quite confident to finish 36 holes today and play a regular final round tomorrow”, tournament director Jochen Gertitschke said.
